David Wiseman: Nature as Refuge

HomeArt 讌, M/F, Convention Plaza Office Tower, 1 Harbour Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

March 24 - September 23, 2026

The exhibition brings together a range of works made by David Wiseman over the past 10 years, providing a brief overview of his practice alongside new designs made specifically for HomeArt. For over 20 years, Wiseman has been making works that seek to bring the viewer closer to the magic and mystery of nature, to see the detail and beauty of the world around us. Wiseman's work draws inspiration from his fascination with the natural world, global decorative arts traditions, and a reverence for honoring timeless craft techniques. In turbulent times, we seek shelter and often turn to the natural world for comfort, perspective, and renewal. Plants and animals appear throughout the exhibition as companions to each other and to us, the viewer, in reflection. A desert tortoise continues its patient journey; a portly squirrel savors a nectarine; parrots perch upon a weeping cherry; mandarin oranges shift through shades of green, yellow, and gold. A contemplative monkey pauses to daydream — a world of extremes held in mind: beauty and terror, kindness and malice, tragedy and art.

These fleeting moments of blossoming and ripening are held still in bronze and ceramic. Time slows, and materials are transformed into objects of reverence. The exhibition offers places to rest the eye and the spirit — small perches for delight, contemplation, and quiet reprieve.
